Nine Tips For Planning Your Beach Wedding

Your dream wedding on the beach can be a celebration in paradise, one that you and the guests will never forget. Surf, sand, beautiful views of the ocean; it’s the ideal setting for the couple to be, and a prime venue choice for stunning wedding snapshots. Since your Big Day will be an outdoor wedding, there are some important things to keep in mind; not only will everyone need to dress the part, but you’ll need to plan your menus and wedding cake for the climate! Here are nine tips for your perfect beach wedding:

Choose your menu with the location’s theme in mind . Your seaside ceremony might incorporate local fare and specialties for buffet-style dining, or a sampling event under a tent or gazebo before an indoor reception. If you’re on the Caribbean island, set the theme with fresh seafood, Jamaican-inspired cuisine, appetizers, and cocktails. Hawaii will bring an entirely different setup, including exotic fruit platters or ‘poi’ specialties. The wedding cake will need to be sensitive to the climate; ice cream cakes probably won’t be the best choice. That carefully constructed buttercream frosting might also start to melt, so be sure to take the time and review fondant and icing options with the cake specialist. And don’t forget to pack food covers! These will help keep those seagulls at bay.

Have a relocation plan. Even when the weather forecast predicts clear skies, there’s nothing like an island storm to sabotage your dream day. Map out your Plan B in case of inclement weather, and be sure to pick a spot that includes all guests.

Dress the part! Outdoor dresses and makeup for the bride will need to accommodate for the natural light and setting. A makeup artist that insists on caking on makeup that would better suit indoor photography is missing the mark; you’ll need a natural base and coverage for that flawless look. For the light breezes and chilly evening winds, be sure to bring along a matching shawl or cardigan.

Make sure you book all shelters, picnic areas, and settings at least 4 months in advance. You’ll need to work with the local park managers and or districts officials to ensure that you reserve that much-coveted space.

Make use of outdoor photography tips, especially if you’re snapping your own. You’ll want to keep the sun behind you as often as possible, and shoot a mixture of poses so that you can review them easily later-this is easier with a digital camera. Be sure to pack at least double the amount of film, since this is one event you don’t want to miss for a moment! Experiment with different angles and views well beforehand to get the most of your photos.

Pack a supply bag; you’ll need essentials such as hairspray, combs, brushes, a small mirror, and touch-up makeup. Breath mints are a good idea, as well as a change of clothing for any small accidents or incidents. Insect repellant is a good idea, especially if you’ll be spending time near the water for the majority of the day.

Barefoot or sandals? You won’t be too cmforalbe with 3″ heels and the wedding dress trail in tow; make the decision to go barefoot, or wear some fashionable sandals that are beach-friendly so that you can still glide to your final destination at the ‘altar.’

Track the tide. Check the tide schedules and plan your time accordingly! Choose the low-tide time slots whenever possible, and map out a strategy for any storms or alternative spots to exchange vows if needed.

Accommodate for your guest list. You may need to make special arrangements for seating and chairs, so be sure to run an accurate head count in the planning stages. It’s unlikely that your guests will be too keen on sitting on the sand, so be sure to provide plenty of seating options!Be proactive as you set your sights on the beach wedding of your dreams; you can make your ideal destination a day to remember with just a little planning and coordination. From the Florida coasts to the islands of Hawaii, make the best of your beach wedding with these nine tips.
